Cycle speed only solves the first step
Automatic cleaning can reduce the amount of time urine clumps and stool remain exposed on the litter bed. That is useful, but fast cycling is not the same as complete odor control. Once waste moves below the litter bed, the storage system becomes the main factor.
Long cycle delays may help clumps harden, while shorter delays reduce exposure time. The right setting therefore depends partly on litter performance. A cycle that starts before a clump is firm can smear waste and make odor worse.
Waste drawer sealing matters
Whisker describes Litter-Robot 4 as using a tightly sealed, carbon-filtered waste drawer. Neakasa uses a separate waste compartment and bag system. Compare how each design closes the waste path, not just whether a filter is present.
Filters themselves are consumables. If you do not plan to replace them, include that reality in the comparison rather than assigning value to a feature you will not maintain.
Litter compatibility can change the result
A robot needs litter that sifts correctly and forms stable clumps. If the litter breaks apart during a cycle, more residue stays inside the machine and more odor remains in the room. Follow the manufacturer’s current litter guidance and avoid assuming every clumping product behaves the same.
A realistic odor routine
Use an appropriate clumping litter, keep sensors and seals clean, empty the drawer before odor forces you to, and deep-clean on a repeatable schedule. For multi-cat homes, expect the drawer interval to shrink sharply compared with one-cat marketing examples.
